Savory Cottage Cheese Bowl

I love a bowl of great food, and sometimes you can pair foods together that you wouldn’t necessarily think work together, but they do… like they really do! I love cottage cheese. It’s a great high protein snack or meal, and relatively low calorie for the protein it packs. So many times, people pair cottage cheese with fruit, but it also goes so well with savory flavors. Use this savory cottage cheese bowl as inspiration to start building your own bowl or random foods. You may just find your new favorite meal.

The Good Fats

This bowl starts with a base of cottage cheese. I topped it with porcini mushrooms, avocado, a soft boiled egg, scallions and spicy chili crisp. This bowl is not only protein heavy, but also fat heavy, so it’s incredible satiating. Don’t be afraid of the fat. Avocado, egg yolk and dairy fat all provide amazing health benefits! Healthy fats lower the risk of developing heart disease, improve blood cholesterol levels, and help with blood sugar control. It also reduces inflammation. EAT THE GOOD FATS AND REAL FOODS.


I want to talk a little bit about the porcini mushrooms as well. I chose porcini because they have a delicious umami flavor that really adds to this bowl. I actually ordered these porcini mushrooms dried from amazon, as they can be hard to find. To rehydrate them, I soaked them in water for about 30 minutes, then rinsed them. Once rinsed, I sautéed them in a pan with a little butter, salt and pepper.

Since we are talking about health benefits, I want to call out that porcini mushrooms are very healthy as well! Mushrooms are full of fiber, antioxidants which support immune function and have lots of vitamins and minerals! They are also a good source of vegetarian protein.

Chili Crisp

This was my first time trying chili crisp, and I think it’s safe to say that I will be putting that ISH on EVERYTHING from this day on. Find yourself some, and buy the biggest jar you can.

  • 1 Cup cottage cheese
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 2 Tbsp chopped scallions
  • 2 Tbsp chili crisp
  • 1 soft boiled egg


  • Scoop one cup of cottage cheese into a bowl. Top with cooked porcini mushrooms, 1/2 an avocado, a soft boiled egg, sliced scallions, and a healthy scoop of chili crisp.
