I love to make my own salad dressings. It’s so easy, and you can put whatever you want in them. There aren’t any chemicals that you will find in many of the store bought dressings, as an added bonus. This honey balsamic dressing is a favorite in my house. The tang of the balsamic with the sweetness of the honey, lends itself so perfectly with an earthy salad. The next time you make yourself a salad, give this honey balsamic dressing a try.
This dressing is so simple to make, and you might already have these ingredients in your pantry. And if you don’t already have them, buy them once and you will have homemade dressing for months!
There are a few basics of salad dressings; Dijon mustard and a vinegar of some kind are in many dressings. Dijon acts as an emulsifier, and holds all of the ingredients together once you’ve mixed them well. A good oil is always good to have around, even though we won’t be using oil in this recipe. I like to make this recipe a little creamy, by adding some mayonnaise.
For this recipe, all you need is a jar and some measuring spoons. Pour your honey, balsamic, Dijon and mayo into the jar, close the lid and shake it vigorously until all the ingredients are combined. Remove the lid and add a pinch of salt. Recover and shake again. Pour this dressing over your favorite salad. We love this dressing on a bed of greens with tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, pistachios and feta cheese.
Let this be the start of your journey in making all of your own salad dressings!
